Our Origin
Ovenbird began in 2016, when founder Keiller Kyle started experimenting with sourdough bread at home. What began as a hobby quickly turned into baking for friends, neighbors, and the Patterson Park community.
Inspired by the breads and hospitality of Turkey, where Keiller's wife Nadire grew up, those early loaves became the foundation for a neighborhood bakery rooted in craftsmanship, community, and everyday gathering.
We opened our first bakery in Little Italy in 2020. Since then, Ovenbird has grown to serve Baltimore with cafés in Little Italy, Highlandtown, and Hampden.
While we've grown, our purpose hasn't changed: make great food with care and create places where people want to come back.
Our Product
Everything we make starts with simple ingredients, traditional techniques, and plenty of time.
Our breads are naturally leavened with our sourdough starter and baked fresh every day. Alongside them, you'll find bagels, croissants, pastries, cookies, and scones made by hand, as well as a café menu of breakfast, lunch, and evening fare.
Our food is inspired by the breads, flavors, and hospitality of Turkey, Europe, and the Mediterranean, while remaining rooted in Baltimore and made for everyday life. Some favorites have been with us from the beginning, while others evolve throughout the year—but everything is made with the same care and intention.
